Celine Van Gerner has announced today that she will miss the upcoming World Championships in order to have a surgery on her Achilles. The injury’s been bothering her since Rio and limiting her training and upgrades. Van Gerner said that she did multiple tests and tried other options but ultimately she needs a surgery to fix the issue and she decided to have the surgery now in order to come back for the next year’s Worlds:
“It was a difficult decision, but I want to have it done, I want more, I’m not satisfied with my level [in gymnastics], so I’m going to get under the knife right now. I’m actually healthy, this is really a surgery to make make sure I can get more out of it in the end, I want to upgrade my routines even more. Fortunately, I do not have to walk on crutches for too long and the rehabilitation is relatively short, but I want to do it well and not rush it”.
Van Gerner made the international headlines with her Cats floor routine with which she took the fourth place in the floor final at Euros.
