Dalaloyan: I wouldn’t mind a burger right now

In 2018, Artur Dalaloyan left Doha as not only the all-around World champion, but also the floor champion. In addition, he won silver on vault and bronze on parallel bars. This year, Dalaloyan was not able to defend either of his gold medals and did not qualify to the parallel bars final, but won silver in the all-around and on vault and bronze on high bar.

In the floor final, Dalaloyan finished fourth, a bit more than a tenth behind Xiao Ruoteng. He had to downgrade one of his passes because he was off, which hurt his final score. He believes he was just tired after the team and the all-around finals:

“I managed the first half of the routine fine, but we just competed in the all-around the day before, I wasn’t able to recover in time and just got tired by the end of the routine. So, I was off on the last pass and downgraded it automatically. That’s why the score is so low, but, generally, my routine was clean, I was just not recovered, so I didn’t have enough energy till the end.”

“Actually, if the rest of the guys did well, I knew at that moment, that my score would only allow me to win a medal if I got lucky. I did not expected that, so I took the fourth place well.”

He wanted to do a bit better in the vault final and got disappointed but was very happy with his medal in the high bar final:

“I can say that on vault, I expected cleaner execution from myself. After all, this is my event, I do the vaults well. The landing let me down a bit on both vaults. In any case, I’m happy with my performance, I kept working till the end, that’s the most important thing. Last year, I was also in the high bar final. but by the sixth event, I was finished, I had no energy, so I fell. This year, I fixed it – I upgrade my routine, went out and did it from the start till the end. So, I’m really happy for myself, of course. But I can do better. Of course, our main goal was to place first as a team, we’ve achieved that and I’m incredibly happy and proud. I understand that in the future, we will only fight for the first place. The most important thing is to keep this team together, heal the injuries, and keep working.”

by the end of the competition, all his thoughts were about getting home:

“Of course, I wouldn’t mind a burger right now. But the first thing I really want is to get home. I want to hold my daughter, to kiss my wife and to stay at home at least two or three days.”
