Lankin: I’ve worked for that medal

Dmitrii Lankin might sometimes be overshadowed by his superstar teammates Nagornyy and Dalaloyan, but he keeps proving that he is a strong medal contender on several events. Last year, Lankin won bronze on vault at Euros, and this year – a bronze on floor. Lankin told the media that this medal was perhaps even harder than the silver on floor in 2017 as the competition is stronger now:

“Did I expect this medal? Expecting is one thing but I’ve worked for this medal. I wanted to take what is mine to take. Gymnastics is such an unpredictable spot, some people can make mistakes, some people can do everything perfectly. I’m just doing my thing – I trained, I came, I showed what I could do. Whatever happened happened, I made the final and now I’m in the top three.”

“I don’t consider this to be a step back compared to the European Championships in 2017 when I was second. That competition was the first one after the Olympic Games, no one knew what the competitors would bring, what the judging would be. I became second on floor with a score of 14.400. And now I’m third with 14.800. So, there’s progress.”
