Naidin: I’m feeling better and better every day

Sergei Naidin talked to TeamRussia about his injury and having to withdraw from the high bar final at the Youth Olympic Games.

A: The Youth Olympic Games are so far the most important competition in my career. And I needed to prepare for it because I won’t have a chance for such an experience anymore. It’s a pity I had to withdraw from the high bar final. I landed with my back a bit twisted and the landing was quite hard, so it hit my leg, I got a pinched nerve, I felt like I was tased.

Q: Did walk to your coaches normally or you were already limping?

A: At first, I didn’t understand what happened. Then I stepped on my leg and it started getting numb and I realized something happened to my back. I got to my coach, then I lied down and that was it, I couldn’t get up. Then, when I came to MRI, I got a painkiller shot and when I was making the first steps, I thought something happened to my hip. It turned out that a nerve got pinched and the pain radiated to the hip and the leg.

Q: What were you most afraid of that the moment?

A: Of what the MRI would show. I thought everything is very serious. Actually, it’s not serious, I’m walking normally already, I need massages, stretching and everything will be fine.

Q: When will you be able to start training normally?

A: At first I need to get massages and to stretch my back so that this contraction would relax. But I’m feeling better and better every day so I hope that I’ll soon be back in the lineup.

The organizers of the Youth Olympic Games held a special medal ceremony just for Naidin in order to give him his parallel bars bronze.
