Russian gymnasts will join the case against WADA

In December the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced that Russian athletes might be banned from the Olympics. The Russian Anti-Doping Association (RUSADA) will be appealing the ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

This week, the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation has announced it will join the dispute as a third side representing the gymnasts. In addition, several individual gymnasts will also join the dispute – the federation announced that Artur Dalaloyan, Nikita Nagornyy, and Lilia Akhaimova will also join the dispute as third sides. While the dispute is between WADA and RUSADA, additional parties are allowed to file notices of intervention, basically stating that the matter concerns them as well and they want to state their positions and follow the arbitration process closely to ensure that the process is being fair and clear.
