At the meeting at the Ministry of Sports, Andrei Rodionenko said that the Russian team will have two training camps in Japan in order to prepare for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. According to Rodionenko, the team plans on having a two-week camp in Kamo in 2019. The gym there will have the same equipment as at the Olympics. In addition, the team will arrange a week camp in the Olympic village in 2020.
The team is also supposed to have training camps in Novosibirsk where a brand-new state-of-the-art gym was recently opened. Since Novosibirsk is closer to Tokyo than Moscow, it will be easier for the team to get over the jetlag once they come to Tokyo. Originally, there were talks about training in the Russian Far East, in Vladivostok but the region currently doesn’t have any gyms of the required level and it’s not likely that one would be built in the next year.
