Ivan Stretovich will not participate at the upcoming Russian Championships in Penza on March 10th-14th, according to Valentina Rodionenko. She told TASS that Stretovich recently had wrist surgery and is still recovering but should be able to compete at the European Championships in April:
“Stretovich won’t compete in Penza because he’s recovering from wrist surgery that was two months ago. We have to protect him, even though he’s already training but without putting much load on his hands. We expect Ivan to recover by the European Championships. He’s a serious guy and so far, the recovery is going as the doctors predicted. Since World Cups scheduled for March won’t happen due to the pandemic, all the strongest national gymnasts except for Stretovich will compete in Penza.”
Stretovich has had a nagging wrist injury since the Tokyo Olympics and the recovery took a long time. He was finally able to start competing at his previous level in 2019 and made the gold-winning World Championships team but the injury started bothering him again last year.
