Seems like Svetlana Khorkina can really do it all. She started acting in a theater play while she was still competing in gymnastics, then after retiring, she switched to working in the Russian parliament singing, dancing (on the Russian version of Dancing with the Stars) and even performing at a circus (because, of course, Russia has a “Circus with the Stars” show”). Currently, she is one of the vice-presidents of the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation and a highly ranked army officer, she’s a deputy director of the army’s sports club CSKA. In the past couple of years, Khorkina has been the media’s go-to person for anything sports-related and she made comments about the FIFA World Cup, Winter Olympics, WADA and much more.
This week the official documents of the Russian Skating Union revealed another surprise – Svetlana Khorkina was added to the national team’s coaching staff. She is listed as simply a “specialist” and supposed to work with both teams. It is not clear what her work will actually be especially since she has no experience in the actual speed skating. Neither the RSU nor Khorkina have commented on the matter so far.
