Voronin Cup is traditionally the last competition of the year in Russia. However, this year, it is not very likely to happen. It is currently scheduled for December 17th to 21th in Penza but the organizers announced they will make the final decision whether to cancel it on December 1st:
“We originally planned to have Voronin Cup at the end of November in Moscow, at the VTB-Arena – Dynamo Central Stadium. But due to the complicated epidemiological situation it was then decided to move it to Penza. But we’re completely ready to hold this competition and already secured the support of the Penza Oblast government and the Ministry of Sports. It is an international competition and it’s not clear whether foreign gymnasts will be able to come to Russia in December. Some countries, due to the pandemic, preventing their citizens from traveling unless they have extraordinary reasons. Until December 1st, we need to understand whether we will be able to host an international competition this year. Yes, theoretically it can happen in another format but we might have certain difficulties which will have to try to overcome.”
Russia was able to hold several national competitions this fall including the national championships, and some local-level competitions are still on the schedule. However, the federation canceled the espoir national championships scheduled for December and almost no national team members attended the nationals citing coronavirus concerns. The federation also withdrew from the European Championships and will have an internal competition for the national team members at Round Lake instead on December 22-23. Thus, national team members are very unlikely to participate in Voronin Cup. With the pandemic being far from under control in Russia at the moment, it is doubtful many international gymnasts would want to attend.
