Nikita Nagorny apologized to the fans on the medal podium for his results, he thought he let them down by winning a bronze medal. Head coach of the Russian men’s team Valeri Alfosov told TASS that even though Nagorny had different expectations for the AA final, there was nothing to apologize for:
“Yesterday, Nikita Nagorny aimed at a different result, he came to fight for the gold medal but ended up with the bronze. The fight was good, fair, beautiful, tragic, and dramatic. But, of course, Nikita doesn’t need to apologize to the fans.”
Alfosov says Dalaloyan was checked by the doctors after the all-around final and will get a full check-up before his flight home:
“Today, the doctors checked Artur visually, he’s fine. Dalaloyan will have a full medical check-up in the village in order to arrive in Moscow with test results and images to continue his rehabilitation. I esteem Artur Dalaloyan’s performance at these Olympics very, very highly. He did his maximum both for himself and the team. It’s incredible what he’s done here after such a serious injury that he had and still has. Because Artur will still rehab and condition his leg and work on his post-surgery Achilles stretching. Artur kept the word he gave to the team and did not let anyone down. Dalaloyan became an Olympic champion which is a great success. He’s still a young gymnast and we hope that his career will continue. Dalaloyan will stay with us here until the end, he’s a reserve for the rings final which will take place on August 2nd.”
