Alfosov: None of the teams had a perfect competition

Valeri Alfosov, the head coach of the men’s team, felt from the start that this was the year Russian men could finally win the team gold at the World Championships. He noted some mistakes the team made but added that none of the teams had a perfect day:

“I want to say that none of the teams had a perfect competition at these Championships. The Chinese made mistakes, the Japanese made mistake, the Russian made mistakes, the Americans, the British… But the level of men’s gymnastics is very high and at these Championships, there are many teams that could’ve become World Champions. There’s a lot of competition. No one was able to be perfect. But we were still better at this competition and we’re happy with team medals.”

Alfosov says the team does not plan many big upgrades and will work on polishing the routines for Tokyo:

“Even if we upgrade, those upgrades will not be very significant. Mainly, we’ll be working on quality because our gymnasts can show beautiful gymnastics that the fans like.”
