Valeri Alfosov, the head coach of the Russian MAG team, told TASS, that Russia will send its B team to the friendly competition in Italy. The gymnasts will have a chance to prove themselves and get considered for the alternate spot for the Worlds team or perhaps even a spot on the team.
The friendly competition between the MAG teams of Russia, Italy, and Greece will take place in Trento, Italy on September 22.
Alfosov said:
“At this competition, we’ll have our B team. The athletes who are still in contention for the World Championships will compete there. This competition will be another trial for them. A five-person team plus one alternate will go to the World Championships in Qatar. At the competition in September, we’ll decide who will go to Doha as an alternate and, possible, as the fifth person”.
The following gymnasts will compete in Italy: Alexey Rostov, Vladislav Poliashov, Kirill Prokopev, Sergei Eltcov, Aleksandr Chicherov, Maksim Sinichkin.
Earlier, Alfosov said that the Russian team that competed at Euros is likely the team that will compete at Worlds as well and they decided to leave Abliazin at home in order to test the Worlds team (Abliazin won’t be going to Worlds as he’s trying to qualify via World Cups).
