Aliya Mustafina will miss the Osijek Challenge Cup next week because of a knee injury. She originally missed the national team training camp in Spain because she was preparing for the competition. However, today Sergei Starkin, Mustafina’s personal coach, has announced that she will have to withdraw from the competition because of a minor meniscus injury:
“Aliya got a minor meniscus injury and will miss the competition in Croatia. It’s hard for me to say now when the injury happened, the pain appeared after the Russian Championships. We didn’t stop training, only for a while avoided certain exercises in order to minimize the load put on the knee. We’re expecting that Mustafina will begin training in full force at the end of May”.
