Yesterday’s AA World Cup was mostly a splat fest which is to be expected early in the season. Several gymnasts had falls or major mistakes on bars and beam and Zhang Jin who won the all-around was the person who had the cleanest competition. Elisabeth Seitz who finished second didn’t have falls but grabbed the beam with her hands and Jordan Chiles fell from both bars and beam.
Full competition can be watched here:
Angelina Melnikova had her share of mistakes on all three apparatuses (and a fall on beam) but she also unveiled a new dismount on beam – full in pike – and a new pass on bars – full in layout.
On her Instagram, Melnikova wrote:
“Thanks a lot for your support! Thanks to my coaches and doctors! I tried new routines at this competition. I’m not in the top shape yet but I’m getting there. On floor, I was fighting as much as I could and however I could. I almost face-planted but managed to get out of it thanks to running. I wasn’t giving up till the end. I’m glad that I could fight with my new programs. All in all, thanks!”
Melnikova’s save on floor has indeed been very impressive.
