Artur Dalaloyan ended up as the most decorated gymnast on the Russian men’s team in Glasgow winning gold medals on vault (where he defended his title from 2017) and parallel bars and a bronze on the floor – in addition to his team gold. He also proved to be quite consistent, having no falls throughout the competition and consistency used to be a big issue for him in the past.
Dalaloyan was asked by the journalists if he feels like a hero after winning so many medals for his country:
“I don’t feel like a hero. Yesterday we won gold in the team competition and this was the most important. That’s why everyone is a hero, everyone has gold, and gold is the most important [accomplishment] you can achieve at competitions”.
Dalaloyan also said that he didn’t expect to win in the parallel bars final:
“The victory on bars was completely unexpected, I’m really surprised. I set a goal for myself to do the routine with the least mistakes throughout the championships and I didn’t think about the results. Generally, it was good, I was getting the same score all three days, 15 something, which is I guess higher than my ceiling”.
Dalaloyan expects to compete with the same routines at Worlds:
“I don’t think there’s a reason to change anything in the routines before the World Championships and no one will let me anyway. Now the serious preparation will start when you will have to give your maximum every day and there’s no time for changes. If you change your routine, you have to test it but there are no expected competitions. But I have some ideas [for the future]”.
