Artur Dalaloyan who tore his Achilles the day before leaving for the European Championships has returned to Round Lake. Valentina Rodionenko told TASS yesterday that Dalaloyan is supposed to start training after a short quarantine:
“Artur came to Round Lake for the training camp, he’s currently in quarantine and will be cleared today. In the afternoon, he’ll start training. The post-injury recovery is going fine. The most important thing for him right now is not to rush things and save himself for the main competition.”
The main competition is the Olympics – despite the seriousness of the injury, the coaches think it is possible for Dalaloyan to recover in time:
“The recovery is moving along at a normal speed; it all now depends on his body. We are still counting on Artur and hope that he will be on the Olympic team in Tokyo.”
Moreover, we might see Dalaloyan compete in less than a month (and less than two months after his injury) as he is registered for the Russian Cup which will take place in Novosibirsk on June 8-12. Rodionenko said Dalaloyan might do four events at this competition:
“Dalaloyan really wants to compete there on four events and, perhaps, we will allow him to do it. We’ll downgrade the dismounts and he’ll skip floor and vault which are really hard on legs and feet. [The competition] is really important for him to stay ready. We hope that everything will be well. Artur has to compete at the Olympics”.
