2015 bronze team medalist Becky Downie has had surgery on her ankle. She has had pains in her ankle since before Euros and scans she had a week before Worlds trials revealed some cartilage had come away from the bone in her ankle. The gymnast has been plagued with injuries over the past twelve months, since only coming back from an elbow injury in the summer of 2017. She has tweeted that the surgery has been a success, and she thanked her mother for being there for her through thick and thin.
Thanks to @helendownie who’s been my rock and there for it all. The highs, lows & everything inbetween. You’re always right by my side and I can’t thank you enough. Plus you have to do it all x2 😂 LOL
We’re so ready for the chapter that comes with happy tears now though ♥️ pic.twitter.com/GZXzJfWpWZ

Downie finished seventh in the Bars final at Worlds this year, which isn’t the finish she wanted, but a ‘huge accomplishment’ after the rollercoaster year she’s had.
On her Instagram, she said didn’t want to miss another international competition after missing the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast in April, and after working so hard, decided to go for it and made all her team proud of her achievement this year at World Championships.
