While the Russian men’s team led by seven points in the qualification and by four points in the team final, both days of competition didn’t go so smoothly for them – they had two falls on high bar in the qualification and mistakes on floor, rings and parallel bars in the team final.
David Belyavskiy commented to the journalists on the team’s performance in the final:
“It was very interesting for us today, same as it was for you. The truth is, we made a lot of mistakes today which we could have avoided but we managed in the end and the result speaks for itself. I did my whole routine [on high bar] and it seemed to me that the bar wasn’t set well for me, it seemed too rigid. I worked as usual and the most important thing was that I finished everything, I didn’t need more. The British gave us such a chance we couldn’t pass on. The high bar was very slippery, it’s because of the chalk which ended up the reasons for the falls of the British gymnasts. It doesn’t depend on you, whatever you do, how good your grip is, you can still fall”.
