Many times before, we heard Oksana Chusovitina saying she would retire after the Olympics and every time, she ended up training for the next Olympics. At 46 years old, she will compete at her 8th Olympics on Sunday. At the podium training today, she wore a leotard with the number 8.
However, she says that this time she’s serious and has no plans of going for the next Olympics:
“I’m feeling good here. But these are definitely my last Games. I’ve never said before that it was my last Olympics. But this time it’s really true. Why did I make this decision? I want to spend more time with my son. He moved to Italy two years ago. He got accepted to a university this year and I want to be with him”.
We’ll see if the retirement actually happens this time.
