Oksana Chusovitina is returning to competition this week at Stella Zakharova Cup in Kiev. Chusovitina is usually quite a jet-setter, traveling around the word for competitions and appearances. However, the pandemic forced her to stay home for several months. She told Sputnik that she was able to go to Germany where her son lives and her next stop will be Stella Zakharova Cup in Ukraine. She also plans on performing at Nemov Show on 31st of October in Moscow.
“I feel fine, I got to Germany without any issues. On Thursday, I’m flying to Kiev to compete at Stella Zakharova Cup in order to get myself together and get energized.”
The competition will be without spectators but Chusovitina is glad it’s happening at all, especially since it was under a threat of cancellation:
“Of course, it’s nice when the arena is full. You go out, everyone’s watching you. All gymnast like it, it gives you some energy. But we understand the situation in the world. Overall, we’re happy that some competitions are starting and that gymnastics is starting to move somehow.”
Chusovitina doesn’t want to discuss the preparation for her eighth Olympics for now:
“I think it’s still too early to talk about it. Let’s wait until everything stabilizes and normalizes in the world. We’ll wait for good news, so that everything will open and we will live normal lives again.”
