This week, the Russian senior national team has started their second camp at Round Lake since the quarantine. There was a short break between the camps during which some gymnasts were allowed to leave the training center but many opted to stay at the center. Valentina Rodionenko told TASS that Artur Dalaloyan, who did not attend the first camp, will be missing this time as well due to continued injury rehabilitation:
“Yesterday, the Russian national team arrived to Round Lake for the second camp. Athletes were tested for the coronavirus and now we’ll wait for their results. The tests were for the gymnasts who were allowed to leave for 2-3 days. After all, it’s really hard to stay at the fenced and closed-off center without breaks. That’s why some asked to leave for a few days. The second camp will last until July 12th and we’re waiting for some lifting of restrictions because everyone’s tired. Dalaloyan isn’t with us yet, he is supposed to recover from the injury and come back to the third camp.”
“The camp that has officially finished on Sunday was basically recovery-oriented. The athletes weren’t doing full routines yet, only combinations. Because a two-month break is a lot in elite gymnastics and the main goal for the camp was to avoid injuries, which we’ve achieved.”
The third camp is slated to start on July 19th.
I guess the Olympics being postponed is a blessing for Dalaloyan as it sounds like the injury is taking a it of time to recover from. I wonder had the Olympics not been postponed if he would have had to miss them or been limited. With 4-4-4 and 4-3-3 it would be super risky to take someone that is injured or not 100%.
