Daria Spiridonova broke her ankle last year and ended up having to miss most of the 2019 season in order to recover. She was originally reluctant to talk about the injury and carefully posed for photos so that her cast wouldn’t be seen. She decided to open up about the injury and told the story on Instagram:
“I’m happy that I was able to recover after the injury. For the first time in my career, I got seriously injured, it was quite hard. In 2018, at a practice, I had a bad landing and had a comminuted ankle fracture. Later, I had a surgery and a titanium plate was put into [my ankle] with which I’m still training. Actually, everything is not as bad as it sounds. In any case, things work out for the best.”
“I want to thank a lot everyone who helped me to come back to the elite sport. Thank you to everyone who worried about my career, despite not even knowing about my injury. Unfortunately, in the final at the World Championships, I made enough mistakes to lose a spot on the medal podium. This page has been turned, we’re moving on!”
Spiridonova also added the injury happened shortly before her wedding last December and at the wedding, she was dancing on the broken ankle.
