VTB Bank conducted an interview with André Gueisbuhler, secretary general of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). Gueisbuhler said that one of FIG’s priorities is to make gymnastics the most popular sport in the world. Right now, according to Gueisbuhler, gymnastics (he doesn’t specify whether artistic or all gymnastics) takes the 24th place in the popularity ratings of sports. It’s ranked less than volleyball, cricket, and golf, even though it’s one of the most popular sports during the Olympics. However, the FIG plans on increasing the popularity of gymnastics beyond the Olympics and making it one of or the most popular sport by the end of the 2020s.
