Irina Alexeeva had a great showing at her first Russian Championships last month but originally wasn’t added to the national team and said that she would be back in Russia only at the end of June for the Russian Cup which will serve as a selection event for the European Championships.
However, today Valentina Rodionenko said to RIA Novosti that Alexeeva was invited to her first national team training camp and will arrive at Round Lake on Sunday:
“Alexeeva is ok, she was invited to the training camp and will arrive at Round Lake on May 27th. She persuaded us. In addition, considering that we lost Eremina for a while, we will need her on two events – bars and floor”.
Rodionenko also said that there is a chance that Maria Paseka will be ready to compete at Worlds while Elena Eremina will definitely miss the whole season:
“The new training camp starts on May 27th at Round Lake. Masha Paseka is ok, she’s gradually getting into training. Perhaps, she’ll be ready by Worlds. We’re definitely not counting on her for Euros. For now, everything’s great, we’re even afraid to jinx it. We will need her at the Olympics but she will have to qualify as an individual because she only has one event. Eremina is ok, too, but we’ll keep her from competing, she’ll miss bot Euros and Worlds, the next year will be her year”.
Maria Paseka recently participated in the national team training camp in Spain and started training bars in addition to vault. Paseka was a European bars bronze medalist in 2013 but later had to drop this event because of the back pain.
