Kiryashova on Nabieva: Tanya is not training now

Tatiana Nabieva has retired and unretired from elite gymnastics a few times already. Her last elite competition was the 2019 Universiade in Naples where she won two silvers and bronze. Last year, one of her coaches, Aleksandr Kiryashov, passed away, and she started working more as a coach. She accompanied Saint-Petersburg WAG team at the 2020 Russian Championships and is still closely working with them. However, she hasn’t announced her retirement and her other coach Vera Kiryashova says that for now it’s just a pause:

“Tanya is not training now. And it’s absolutely possible that she will not ever compete. She’s not getting invited anywhere, so she doesn’t see much point in continuing, even though she used to have good results. But it would be wrong to talk about retirement from competitions. Nabieva hasn’t stopped her gymnastics career for now. At the moment, she’s helping me train gymnasts at camps at home. She told me many times that she was leaving the sport but so far, she has always come back. But for now, Tatiana wants to rest.”
