Viktoria Komova has finished in the all-around at the Russian Championships in third place after two Angelinas – Melnikova and Simakova. She told TASS that she knew she couldn’t fight for the first place as her routines aren’t difficult enough yet but she expected to medal:
“I knew the routines of the other girls and realized that Melnikova has much better routines than mine and she was prepared much better. So I didn’t expect to become an all-around champion today. I expected to medal”.
“I feel fine, I’m finally healthy. I have a medal and tomorrow I will be fighting for the medals in event finals. My routine on bars is still a bit weak but the most important thing is to do everything cleanly, not to rush. Today I wasn’t able to do one connection on bars but I’ll try to do it in the final”.
Komova also said that she didn’t try to compete with Mustafina and just wanted to do her own routines:
“There was no internal competition with Aliya. I just went out and did my routines. I knew that if I did everything well I could get into the top-3”.
