Viktoria Komova last competed at the Russian Cup in the summer of 2018, where she placed third in the all-around and second on bars. She was on the training squad for the European Championships but was not selected and expressed dissatisfaction with the selection process. She left Round Lake after the selection camp and has not been back on the national team since. However, she avoided making any official statements about her career and never confirmed whether she officially retired.
Komova told TASS she’s still training and deliberating whether to return to competition:
“I’ll make a decision about my career at the end of the year. Right now I’m training a bit in Voronezh, just to stay in shape. I planned on announcing my decision at the Voronin Cup if it takes place. Perhaps, I’ll participate in it.”
It’s interesting that Komova used the verb “to participate” and not “to compete” in Russian. Since she’s been actively coaching and judging during the past year, her potential participation in the competition might not necessarily mean actively competing there.
