Larisa Iordache: Chances I will continue gymnastics are about 50%

Larisa Iordache gave an update on her recovery to Telekomsport.ro. Iordache was a heavy favorite to medal in the all-around at the 2017 Worlds but tore her Achilles tendon during the touch warm-up right before the start of the qualification. The gymnast flew to Romania right away to have a surgery and has been working on the recovery ever since.

Iordache said to the media that the recovery is going very slow and that she even has troubles walking on the street. She still wants to do gymnastics but it will depend on whether she’s able to recover. She said that currently the chances of her to recover and continue gymnastics are about 50%.

This likely means that Iordache will not be able to return to competitions this season and might miss Worlds which can put the Romanian team’s chances to make the top-24 teams and to qualify for the next Olympic selection stage at jeopardy.
