Lucy Stanhope will miss British Championships

Lucy Stanhope, who competed for the silver-winning English team at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the British team at the 2018 European Championships, will miss the upcoming English and British Championships. She said in an Instagram story that she is recovering from a stress fracture in her back that was diagnosed last September. She did not specify the timeline for her competition comeback and whether she will be ready in time for the European championships.

In November, Stanhope stated she was verbally committed to the University of Arkansas for the 2020-2021 season.

This injury announcement follows the news of Amy Tinkler missing the first half of the season due to another surgery on her ankle. Tinkler, along with Claudia Fragapane, Ellie Downie, and Becky Downie missed most of the 2018 season due to injuries. This gave additional chances to younger gymnasts to compete internationally but affected the results of the team which finished out of medals at Euros and out of the team final at Worlds.
