Maria Paseka will miss the 2018 season completely

Maria Paseka told TASS that her recovery from the back surgery is going slowly and she will have to miss the entire 2018 season. Only recently Paseka said that she wanted to go back to training soon and Valentina Rodionenko claimed there’s hope for Paseka to compete at the 2018 Euros. It’s not the first time we’re seeing contradictory statements when it comes to Russian gymnastics, so let’s just hope that caution and sense will prevail over the desire to win another vault medal (especially since that didn’t quite work at last Euros).

Maria Paseka said that her back is feeling better after the surgery:

“After the surgery, my back is much better, thank God. Three weeks ago I went to the FMBA [state medical facility where athletes are treated] where I had physical therapy. I’m missing the whole 2018 year because it’s too early for me to vault. We’re being cautious and starting later than it was planned. Now I’m slowly starting to train – I’m going to the recovery center at FMBA, doing beginning gymnastics conditioning. For now, it’s a bit hard for me. In May, we’re going to a camp in Mallorca where I’ll be running on the beach and going to the gym”.
