Medvedev injured on vault in Doha

Andrey Medvedev of Israel doesn’t have the best luck these past two years. In 2017, he had an unfortunate fall on vault at the European Championships and finished last despite being a gold medal contender. Then, in September he had a leg injury and had to miss the World Championships. This August, he topped the vault qualification at Euros but didn’t have great execution in the final again. He had another big chance at the World Championships and got 14.7 on his first vault in the qualification but sat his second vault. Turns out, Medvedev tore his ligament on the first vault – he said on his Instagram that his elbow “literally cracked”.

Israel was not able to qualify a full team to the next year’s Worlds but will be able to send three gymnasts. If Medvedev recovers by that time, he has the potential to qualify to the Tokyo Olympics through the vault final.
