Angelina Melnikova had a blast at Russian championships winning gold in the all-around and on three events (she also won silver on vault). The nationals concluded two very busy months for Melnikova in which she competed at two World Cups and the Jesolo Trophy. In an interview with the media, she said that she didn’t expect to win so many golds at nationals as her main goal was to work on the routine execution:
“I’m not getting tired of winning, these are very nice emotions. I haven’t expected such results from myself, I thought that it would be very hard to come here and compete for four days in a row after the competition in Italy but it all turned out to be much easier. If we’re talking about medals, I set other goals for myself – to clean up my routines and not everything worked out. Of course, I’m not completely happy, I want to make everything perfect but it rarely happens”.
“The floor routine was the hardest for me. I was preparing this routine, I tried to do everything possible. I chose the music myself, I really liked it, we ourselves cut the fragments and put them together”.
Emin Garibov who commentated during the floor final said that even though Melnikova’s floor routine from the last year was beautiful she somehow was rarely able to get through it and this year she and the coaches tried to figure out a floor routine that would work for her. Looks like they managed to do it.
