Aliya Mustafina had to miss the European Games and the World Championships due to an injury. Earlier she said she is currently taking a little break from gymnastics in order to find motivation again.
She told R-Sport that the injury that happened shortly before the European Games seriously affected her training and her mental game:
“Everything was planned for the season. But I was really defeated by the injury before the European Games. I was in really good shape – it was practically perfect for preparing for competitions. I think I’d be able to show routines there that would be very close to the Olympic routines. But, unfortunately, I had an injury and did not go to Minsk.”
Mustafina said that she has already recovered from the injury.
When asked whether Valentina Rodionenko’s announcement of Mustafina’s retirement in August has any truth to it, the gymnast responded:
“She assumes that because, I guess, she understands that I’m old already, she sees how hard it is for me to work in the gym. But those just her assumptions, I’m not going to give an answer for now.”
