Russian national team gymnasts are coming back to Round Lake today after a two-month break. However, it seems that for some gymnasts the break will continue for longer. Nikita Nagornyy told TASS that at the moment, only residents of Moscow City and Moscow region will be able to come:
“For now, only those who live in Moscow City and Moscow region are coming back. Like me. There aren’t many people in the end because those who arrive in Moscow have to be quarantined for two weeks. At the moment, I know that we’re doing coronavirus tests starting Monday. After that, we’re staying isolated in our rooms and waiting for results. If we’ll test negative, we will be able to start training”.
It might also be difficult for gymnasts from other regions to get to Moscow as some flights and trains are getting canceled. In addition, if gymnasts from other regions will want to go home at the end of the camp (or if the camp will get canceled again), they might get stranded or will have to be quarantined for two weeks once they get home. For example, David Belyavskiy missed the previous camp because he was afraid to get stranded in Moscow, some 2000 kilometers away from his wife and young daughter. As he is still in Yekaterinburg, he is unlikely to attend the current camp.
There has not been an official list of gymnasts attending the camp, but Artur Dalaloyan said on his Instagram he is skipping it. The gymnast did not provide a reason but, like Belyavskiy, he has a young daughter, and in March, he said he did not want to be away from his family during the quarantine. Currently, Moscow City is still the epicenter of the outbreak in Russia with over 160,000 infection cases and adding thousands of new cases daily.
