Nikita Ignatyev has recovered from his shoulder injury

Valeri Alfosov, the head coach of the Russian men’s national team, told TASS that Nikita Ignatyev has recovered from his shoulder injury and will join the team at the training camp in Spain. Ignatyev had to withdraw from the Russian Championships right before the start because of a shoulder injury. According to Alfosov, he’s pain-free now and hopefully will start a full training load soon:

“Ignatyev stayed in a hospital for a while, he had a non-invasive treatment for his shoulder. Right now Nikita has no pain, I’ve already talked to him at Round Lake. We hope that Ignatyev will be able to train fully after the return from Mallorca. We continue counting on them for the major international competitions”.

The training camp for the men’s team will take place in Spain on May 21-31. Currently, the women’s team has a camp there.

Most national team members will go to that camp except for Denis Abliazin and Kirill Prokopev who will compete in Osijek at the end of May. Alfosov says that missing the camp will not affect their preparation in any way:

“These two gymnasts missing the camp will not affect their preparation for the major competitions in any way. Abliazin has great training facilities in his home Penza. Prokopev will go to Croatia in order to show his floor routine there with which he won the Russian Championships. It’s important for us to understand how the judges will evaluate his routine”.
