The third edition of the European Games will not include gymnastics. According to European Gymnastics, the organizers were not able to find a suitable venue for gymnastics competitions in and around Krakow, Poland.
Gymnastics was a major attraction at both the 2015 and 2019 Games and included non-Olympic disciplines alongside the Olympics ones. In 2019, the artistic gymnastics competition lost the team event, so only the all-around and event finals were held. The arena was packed nevertheless.
European Gymnastics president Farid Gayibov said:
“For next year’s edition, we looked at several alternatives but couldn’t find venue fitted for gymnastics. We all know that Gymnastics is a very diverse type of sport and is one of the most popular Olympic disciplines. We do hope that the European Olympic Committees and future hosts will consider returning Gymnastics to the European Games programme to add more value and popularity to these multi-sport games”.
The 2023 European Games will be held from June 21st to July 2nd in Krakow and the Malopolska region in Poland and are supposed to include 26 sports.
