Ostapenko: Bachynska is strong both physically and mentally

Anastasia Bachynska is the much anticipated new senior for Ukraine. She won bronze medals in the all-around and on floor at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. Her first senior competition will be the national championships next week and we are likely to see her representing Ukraine at Euros next month.

Segodnya.ua published profiles of promising young athletes in different sports, interviewing their coaches. Oleg Ostapenko, the head coach of the Ukrainian team, talked about Bachynska:

“The past generations of gymnasts were stronger. There were more gymnasts then, they competed with each other, they were mentally stronger. Nowadays, kids play it safe, they don’t have that motivation. Nastia actually has the character. Her problem lies in something else: she skipped the proper training of the basics and she has technical problems. We needed to start coaching her four years ago, we’re a bit late. But she’s strong both physically and mentally, she has a promise. In order to fulfil that, she needs to demonstrate the desire to be like the best and even better. I’m supporting her: let’s do it. If she will go for broke, everything will happen for her.”
