Qiao Liang: I’m very satisfied with today’s performance

Translation from Chinese by Daniel Rothwell

In an interview with CCTV following qualifications at the 2018 World Championships, the Chinese women’s team and head coach, Qiao Liang (also known as Chow) gave their thoughts on their performance.

Zhang Jin: I was very nervous today, I didn’t warm up that well either. I didn’t have that much confidence and overall felt nervous throughout the competition.

Liu Tingting: During the one-touch warmup on beam I did pretty well, but when I competed I guess I was nervous, I feel a little regretful. But towards the end of my routine, I was able to finish well.

Chen Yile: I’m really upset I didn’t qualify for any of the event finals after today’s competition.

Q: How do you prepare with your team for the team final?

Chen Yile: I’ll fix the problems I had today, once I resolve the problem and work with the team, there is no failure

Qiao Liang: I’m very satisfied with today’s performance, we had a few problems, but this is a young team so I can understand. This is our first time to compete at such a large competition, the pressure is really big, so having a few mistakes is normal.

After qualifications, the Chinese women qualified in the third place to the team final, just behind the Russian team, and in the final, they managed to keep their placement after solid floor and vault rotations and despite their mistakes on bars and beam. Luo Huan and Chen Yile both qualified into the all-around final in eighth and twelfth respectively. For event finals, Liu Jinru will compete in the vault finals, Luo Huan will compete on bars, and Zhang Jin and Liu Tingting will compete in the beam finals.
