While Valentina Rodionenko is seemingly sensible about not rushing Elena Eremina’s recovery, Maria Paseka is not so lucky. Rodionenko said to TASS today that Paseka is expected to start training in May which would be less than 5 months after her back surgery. Paseka had a back surgery in December and originally said that the doctors told her to stop training for 7 to 9 months. Later Rodionenko said that Paseka would be able to start training 6 months after the surgery. She was expected to miss the whole 2018 season but now it seems like she might make the Euros team.
Rodionenko: “Paseka is completely fine, the recovery is going well. I think that she’ll start training actively in May. If it will be necessary, we’ll take her to the European Championships in Glasgow. But it’s more important for us now that she recovers completely and we can’t rush in such a situation”.
Rodionenko also commented on the progress of Aliya Mustafina and Viktoria Komova:
“Mustafina and Komova are training a lot right now and preparing for the new season. Of course, it’s harder for Aliya now. Vika had already restored her beam routine and right now she’s working on her vault. It’s not easy now for both of them but they’re not giving up and keep training. It all depends now on their character. It will be possible to make some conclusions after the national championships that will take place in Kazan”.
