While the dates and the location of the Russian Championships have been announced back in September, the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation took some time to decide where the Russian Cup would take place. This year, both competitions took place in Penza. The city is a convenient and inexpensive location for the organizers but the competitions draw very few spectators. The nationals will again take place in Penza this year but there was a possibility of the Russian Cup going to Novosibirsk. However, it seems that the federation opted to hold the competition near the training center in order to minimize travel so close to the Olympics.
The federation announced on their social media that the Russian Cup will be held from 27th of June to 3rd of July in Lobnya, a town just outside of Moscow and right near the village where Round Lake, the national training center, is located. This means that one of the biggest national competitions of the year will be easily accessible to fans from Moscow.
End of June will be jam-packed with competitions, with US, Dutch, and German Olympic trials overlapping with the Russian Cup.
