Alexander Shatilov has officially retired from competitive gymnastics at 34 years old following his fourth Olympic Games. Shatilov made history for Israel by winning the country’s first Worlds medal in 2009. He is also the first Israeli gymnast to win a European title. All in all, Shatilov won seven European and two World medals. Both Artem Dolgopyat and Andrey Medvev said in the past that Shatilov’s success was a major source of inspiration for them.
Shatilov stopped training after the Tokyo Olympics but doesn’t plan to stay away from gymnastics – he will serve as the Israeli men’s national team manager and a coach of the junior team.
