Simone Biles is slated to compete AA at U.S. Classic

Simone Biles’ first competition since the Rio Olympics will be the GK U.S. Classic next week. Biles originally said that she would compete on bars and beam at Classic and then do all-around at Nationals. However, it seems that her plans have changed and she will compete all-around at U.S. Classic. It’s both extremely exciting and a bit worrisome, especially after Aliya Mustafina who also decided to compete AA at her first competition after the break ended up injured. On one hand, Biles has been training since last fall and said she had all of her skills back. On the other hand, she also said that she only started doing full floor routines less than a month ago and in June she also posted on Snapchat that one of her toe bones was shattered. Technically, Biles has not yet qualified to the U.S. national championships that will take place in August but surely the reigning Olympic champion could just do two events and then petition USAG to allow her to compete all-around at nationals.

The field for the competition includes the reigning World AA champion Morgan Hurd, the silver World vault and floor medalist Jade Carey and the reigning US champion Ragan Smith.

The competition will take place on July 28, with juniors starting at 1:30 pm ET and seniors – at 7:30 pm ET.
