Ivan Stretovich missed the 2021 Russian Championships and several national team camps because he has been recovering from wrist surgery. He announced that this week, he came back to Round Lake for his first national team camp since the surgery. Stretovich said on Instagram:
“Today, my first national team camp after the surgery starts. Yes, I still can’t do all the exercises, I’ll train according to a slightly different plan. I’m sure that the recovery will go faster at the training center. I’m happy that the new stage of the recovery is starting – “recovering elements”. There’s a lot of work ahead.”
Russian national team gymnasts generally go to camps even when they are recovering from injuries and their training is limited because of the access to the training center’s facilities and specialists. Round Lake has doctors and physical therapists on staff and this indeed can make the recovery process much faster than if they stayed in their home gyms.
Earlier, Valentina Rodionenko said that Stretovich is expected to be able to compete at Euros but this does not seem a very plausible scenario.
