Tajikistan’s gymnastics federation wants to be reinstated in FIG

Tajikistan’s artistic gymnastics is currently more or less non-existent with only a few active gyms in the whole country in which kids train on the equipment left over from the Soviet times. In 2011, Tajikistan’s gymnastics federation was suspended by FIG for not paying the membership dues. This means Tajik gymnasts can’t participate in any official FIG events.

It seems that the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan is set on turning things around. Last week the federation held elections for the new president at the NOC offices. The newly elected president is Idigul Kosimzoda, a high-ranked governmental official.

The general secretary of the NOC said that they hope the new president will work on developing gymnastics in Tajikistan and reinstating the federation in FIG.
