Titov: We’re ready to come back tomorrow, the issue is getting permission

Vasily Titov, the head of the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation says the national team is eagerly waiting for the government’s permission to resume training and that Round Lake is ready for the gymnasts:

“We aren’t the ones who can decide that. We’re ready to come back tomorrow, the issue is getting permission. The guys and the girls are all at home, training. Of course, they’ll need to recover. We don’t have big competitions this year, so we’ll be recovering. We are constantly in touch with the management of Round Lake, they are ready [for us to come back]. Only permission is needed.”

Round Lake initially served as a quarantine center for elite athletes that returned to Russia from abroad after the start of the outbreak. Currently, all national training centers except for Novogorsk where the rhythmic national team trains are closed. The Russian Sports Minister said earlier that national team camps for various sports might potentially resume in June but it will be a logistical challenge and will depend on many additional factors.
