Viktoria Komova said to TASS that she’s likely to retire after the Tokyo Olympics although she doesn’t know yet what she wants to do after retiring. Komova came back to competitive gymnastics last year after taking a year off due to a back injury. Russian Championships that took place last week were here first big competition after the comeback. She won bronze medals in the all-around and on bars.
“I’m happy first of all with the fact that I managed to recover and started competing. In Kazan, I managed to show decent results and now I need to work more and move forward. Soon, we’ll have Russian Cup where I have to look even better. I really want to make the team for Euros and Worlds this year and to achieve high results there”.
“I think the next two years will be my last ones in the sport although I haven’t made the final decision yet. I don’t know what the future holds for me. I don’t discount that I might study somewhere further, or perhaps I will be working in some area not related to sports. But I like working with the kids, I like teaching them and sharing my experience. But I don’t know yet whether I’ll become a coach”.
Komova already holds a B.A. in coaching and worked as a coach at her gym during her recovery after the back injury. Her mother, a former competitive gymnast, currently works as a coach and a judge.
