Kazan will host the 2022 Russian Championships

Valentina Rodionenko has announced today that the 2022 WAG and MAG Russian Championships will take place in April in Kazan. According to her, the WAG and MAG competitions will be separate and will include junior competitions to select gymnasts for the European Championships in Munich. Interestingly, in previous years, Russian Championships took place a month or two before Euros, but this year, the break between the competitions will be much longer, since Euros will be in August. This, it is not clear how useful the nationals will be in the selection of teams for Euros, even though Rodionenko said it will serve as one of the selection stages.

The Russian WAG Championships will be on April 4-10 and MAG will compete on April 11-17.

Rodionenko also confirmed that Artur Dalaloyan is supposed to come back to Round Lake next week for the first time since Tokyo:

“On January 6th, the first national team camp in 2022 started, to which almost all the [team] leaders came. Nagorny, Belyavskiy, and Abliazin started training, Dalaloyan is supposed to join them next week. For the girls, Olympic champions Vlada Urazova and Viktoria Listunova and also silver Tokyo medalist Anastasia Iliankova are training. Regarding Angelina Melnikova, we gave her a chance to rest. The foundational camp will last till January 22nd. At the end of the camp, all the participants will get training plans for the year – who will have which routines, what they need to work on at home. After that, we will part ways until the next training camp.”
