It seems that Oleg Verniaiev just can’t catch a break. After having ankle surgery on his left leg, he went into surgery just a few days later to repair a ligament in his right leg.
Both injuries happened to him in Switzerland in November. He twisted his right ankle while stepping off the bus and then injured his left ankle on a bad landing on vault.
Verniaiev posted some videos of his rehab exercises on Instagram and said that both surgeries went well. The recovery is expected to take about three months so he is most likely out of the European Championships and will not be able to defend his all-around title. His main goal for the season is to recover in time for the World Championships, help the team to qualify to the Tokyo Olympics and to win an individual medal at Worlds.
