Amy Tinkler has officially announced her retirement from elite gymnastics this week. Tinkler, who won bronze on floor at the 2016 Olympic Games, has not competed since 2018. It seems, that after three surgeries on her ankle, she was still not able to recover well enough to return to competitions again.
Tinkler stated in the press release:
“When one door closes, another one opens. Thank you to the gymnastics community, you’ve been my whole life and this is not a goodbye. In the short term, I’m excited to try new opportunities, especially in an Olympic year like this one where I know Team GB will again capture the Nation’s attention by delivering a fantastic performance in Tokyo.”
