David Belyavskiy has announced on Instagram that he decided to withdraw from contention for the European Championships team. Belyavskiy originally did not plan on competing at Euros because he was still recovering from an injury and missed the Russian championships earlier this month. However, he later decided to prepare four events. Yesterday, the national team held the first verification for the MAG. Belyvskiy says he realized he is not quite where he needs to be for the competition and, since the championships are in two weeks, he made the decision to withdraw:
“Yesterday, the verification took place! And, judging by its results, I realized that I’m not yet ready to go out on the competition floor at Euros, I didn’t quite have enough time! I already manage to do the routines but not of the quality necessary in order to compete well and earn medals. So, my coach and I decided to withdraw from the further competition and honestly told this to the team management. We keep working and there’s lots of work ahead of us!”
